ChurchCrawler

Phil, owner of the ChurchCrawler site, kindly provided me with some fantastic pictures of St. Erkenwald's, from the time of it's construction. You can view these pictures in the Archive section. Thanks again Phil!

Phil's site contains many fantastic pictures of outstanding church architecture. Well worth a visit. There are also two Yahoo Groups related to his site. To access them, simply click the links below.

Ecclesiological Society

If you're into churches, or anything relating to them, then this site has it all. Hundreds of interesting links to visit. This society was formed in 1879 and is the successor of the Cambridge Camden Society.

Essex Churches My own site, born out of this one. This site covers more churches in Essex, and is expanding gradually, so if you thought this site was a little limited, please take a look here.
Kent Churches John Vigar's relatively new site, aiming to provide a picture and description of every old parish church in the county of Kent.
Simon's Suffolk Churches Another county-wide site. Simon has been described in the national press as an eccentric. I met him in June 2003, and thought he was a pretty sound bloke. So I guess I must be an eccentric too?

Christ Church (Southchurch)
Parish Church

In my quest for more knowledge of St. Erkenwald's, my first port of call was Reverend Martin Harris, of Christchurch Parish Church, who was extremely helpful in pointing me towards the right person. Thanks Martin!

The church's site is definitely worth a visit, and contains a lot of very interesting information.

Diocese of Chelmsford  Hundreds of links to Church of England sites.
Earls Hall Baptist Church
Westcliff on Sea

A very smart looking local Baptist Church website. You can even send a ePostcard from here. Also includes news and book reviews.

Parish of Rayleigh Great intro music on this site. Listings of services, events etc.
Parish of Southend

Martin Harris, mentioned above, put me in contact with the Team Rector of the Parish of Southend, Stephen Burdett. Stephen then arranged a meeting where I met Gee Orchard and Paul Francis, both churchwardens of St. John's church. Gee Orchard worked at St. Erkenwald's whilst it was still active. Our meeting at St. John's Church, Southend, uncovered a whole host of pictures and documentation. There is so much that it will take me quite a while to put it all onto this site.

Be sure to take a look at the Parish of Southend website.

St Alban the Martyr, Westcliff Ernest, from St Albans, found this site, and kindly invited me for a guided tour around St Alban's in Westcliff. It certainly is a beautiful church, though it has recently been blighted by a spate of vandalism. Please visit this site, and see what this church has to offer.
St. Andrew's and St. Peter's,
South Shoebury

Two more beautiful local churches. The site contains some very interesting history, not only about the churches, but also about Roman settlements in Essex etc. Be sure to read about the "Tin Church on wheels!"

This is Essex is a website run by the Evening Echo, Evening Gazette and Essex Chronicle. It contains a whole host of information about news in Essex, What's On etc. The editor of the Evening Echo has also given me permission to use photographs and stories relating to St. Erkenwald's on this site.
